The IRTE Skills Challenge 2025 has raised the bar once again. Over three intensive days, top technicians and apprentices from across the bus and coach sector gathered at S&B Automotive Academy in Bristol to take part in the UK’s only national competition celebrating technical excellence in Public Service Vehicle (PSV) maintenance.

From diagnostics to mechanical and electrical tasks, the competition tested not just knowledge, precision, and real-world application. For the engineers competing, it was a chance to prove their skills. For the sector, it was a moment to shine a light on the people who keep Britain moving.

In the spotlight

Midweek, the action intensified with a dedicated Industry Press Day on Wednesday, an exclusive chance for journalists, trade titles, and influencers to witness the competition first-hand. The message was clear: that the PSV sector is brimming with talent, and this event is where it’s discovered.

The press didn’t just observe; they had the opportunity to be immersed in the action. Industry journalists toured the competition bays, interviewed sponsors about their involvement, and captured moments with competitors as they tackled live challenges.

Powered by Partnership

The continued success of the IRTE Skills Challenge is made possible through the valued support of our partners and sponsors.

S&B Automotive Academy played a pivotal role in delivering the event, providing state-of-the-art facilities and expert guidance throughout the three days of technical assessments. The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) also contributed their insight and endorsement, reinforcing the event’s standing as a benchmark for excellence in the industry.

We extend our sincere thanks to our sponsors, Alexander Dennis Limited, Imperial Engineering, Clarios VARTA, C9 Recruitment, GYS Ltd, and GTG Engineering, for their investment in the future of transport engineering. Their support underscores a shared commitment to raising standards, advancing skills, and promoting professional development within the PSV sector.

Sponsorship of the IRTE Skills Challenge offers more than brand placement. It provides a direct connection to emerging talent, enhances industry credibility, and demonstrates alignment with organisations actively shaping the future of commercial vehicle maintenance.

Next stop, Grand Station

As testing wraps and scores are sealed, all eyes now turn to the 2025 IRTE Skills Challenge Awards Ceremony, taking place on Wednesday 16 July at the Grand Station, Wolverhampton.

Here, in front of sector leaders, sponsors, and press, the most skilled PSV technicians and apprentices in the country will be recognised for their exceptional performance. The IRTE Skills Challenge isn't just a competition, it's a powerful platform in the industry for connecting with emerging talent, building brand credibility, and making a lasting impact.
