The IRTE Skills Challenge, organised by the Institute of Road Transport Engineers (IRTE) brings together technicians and apprentices from across the bus and coach sector to test their practical skills and technical knowledge. With the support of returning sponsor, Alexander Dennis, the competition continues to grow in prominence and purpose, championing technician development and raising standards across the industry.

Alexander Dennis's renewed sponsorship underlines the importance of investing in future engineering talent. Alexander Dennis has long supported the competition, recognising its role in promoting essential skills in vehicle maintenance, diagnostics and safety.

Supporting Skills Development in the Bus and Coach Industry

Alexander Dennis continues to deliver training that supports the evolving needs of the industry.  Alexander Dennis reports that training for both new and existing vehicles is progressing strongly, with a wide range of accredited courses now on offer.

In response to growing demand, the AD24 training team has recently expanded, reflecting the company’s ongoing commitment to workforce development.

Later in 2025, AD24 will launch a new training course focusing on Controller Area Networks (CAN) a key system in modern vehicle diagnostics. This new addition was developed directly in response to delegate feedback and forms part of a wider effort to keep technicians up to date with advancing technologies.

Whilst electric vehicle training forms an important part of the offering, AD24 continues to support diesel technicians through its popular Euro 6 diesel course, which remains a staple for many workshops.

Championing engineering skills

“We are really happy to be the platinum sponsor for the IRTE Skills Challenge 2025. The event allows participants to present their skills in engineering and highlights this at the challenge. We are also pleased to show the importance of our training academy, that helps our customers invest in future engineers and technology in their business. Good luck to all the participants.”
