Elections are held each year for the Trustee Board and its three Professional Sector Councils. The Society depends on the valuable input provided by our volunteers and is looking for individuals with recent industry experience who can shape the future direction of the Society.

Experience of senior leadership, a commitment to diversity and an appreciation of the core principles at the heart of the Society’s charitable objectives are all important aspects of the Board and Council roles. All members applying must have their membership subscription paid.

Professional Sector Councils

Members of the Professional Sector Councils are not Directors or Trustees of the SOE, but have a valuable role assisting their professional sector to grow, develop and maintain relevance. You will be required to commit approximately four days per year of your time. Applicants who have relevant industry experience are invited to apply for the following vacancies:

IRTE – 4 vacancies

The road transport sector council welcomes applications from members that have technical experience, with a background in the armed forces, bus and coach, waste management, blue light, vehicle bodybuilding, haulage and/or distribution sectors.

IPlantE – 3 vacancies

The plant sector council welcomes applications from members with an operations engineer background with an interest in all aspects of plant engineering.

BES – 3 vacancies

The engineering surveyors sector council welcomes applications from members that are involved in plant examinations, who would be willing to monitor engineer surveyors and also are involved in inspections.

The Society’s election process uses the single transferable vote. Voting is open to all Society corporate members whose subscriptions are up to date. Members may only vote within the sectors to which they belong. In order to stand for election, members need to nominate themselves and provide names of two corporate members of the Society as proposers and seconders. The deadline for receiving nominations is Friday 17 April 2020.
