Commercial vehicles powered by gas are being proposed as potential alternatives to diesel, in the short and long-term, due to their fuel savings and environmental impact.

Representatives from Walton Summit – Ian Robinson from Heavy Truck Sales; Sales Director Geoff Ward; and Andy Smith, Heavy Truck Technical Manager – told the 32 members and guests how the commercial vehicle and van specialists based in Bamber Bridge near Preston became franchised for sales, distribution and service of the IVECO, Fiat and Isuzu range of vehicles.

IVECO has researched, developed and introduced a range of purely gas-powered commercial vehicles to its portfolio, ranging from 3.5t vans to maximum weight 44t articulated tractor units, Ian told the audience.

He explained the differences between Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) before demonstrating the component layout of the vehicles.

With the aid of video, the audience were shown how the vehicles were fuelled, which included a detailed look at the health and safety procedures, and the PPE required, for the LNG-powered vehicle.
