With figures still being collated for last month's show, the 2008 exhibition welcomed hundreds of exhibitors, hundreds of thousands of visitors, and was the setting for record-breaking sales contracts – totalling US$88.7bn. In addition to the crowds, there is also the small matter of an intricate air display by some of the greatest and fastest machines on earth, as well as an infrastructure to coordinate. The FIA is a huge event, but as usual, engineering competencies are crucial to its success. Operations Engineer speaks to recently appointed Operations Director Grahame Jones, to learn about some of the logistical challenges faced by FIA engineers.
