An introduction to SOE

The Society of Operations Engineers (SOE) is a recognised membership organisation that represents individuals and companies in the engineering industry. It supports and encourages best practice and health and safety initiatives internationally, and is committed to the ongoing growth and personal development of its members, through specialist knowledge-sharing and professional learning.

SOE was initially created as a result of the merger of The Institute of Road Transport Engineers (IRTE) and The Institution of Plant Engineers (IPlantE) in 2000 and was further boosted in 2003 when The Bureau of Engineer Surveyors (BES) joined forces. These well-known bodies form the three Professional Sector bodies of the Society and collectively bring over 50 years’ experience to its members.

In an ever-changing world where systems, facilities, vehicles and equipment of all kinds are increasing in complexity the engineering marketplace requires technicians, engineers and managers that are equipped to adapt and respond to these developments.

That’s why SOE is forever seeking knowledge. Knowledge that can be shared with its members so that they can deliver best practice and continually develop at both a professional and a personal level.

Who should join?

SOE welcomes applications for membership from anyone interested in career or business development in road transport, engineer surveying and plant or from those working within the sphere of operations engineering. Members gain valuable professional recognition and enjoy the support of a leading professional body as they develop their careers.

As an inclusive body SOE welcomes people from all fields of expertise and at all levels of attainment.

It is SOE’s aim;

"To be recognised world-wide by all of our sectors as being the most relevant and professional organisation; to continually deliver best practice amongst engineering individuals and their related companies."
