Army Engineers

Committed to your career

As an engineer working in the military, you are faced with a unique set of opportunities and obstacles. Professional body membership demonstrates a commitment to your career and can also help you to gain promotion within the Armed Forces and industry. Whether you plan to stay in the Army/REME or want to transfer your skills to a civilian company, development and acknowledgement is key. In any career path, becoming a member of the SOE will help.

The SOE is the preferred professional body for engineers in the Army/REME. Many of our existing members are in active service and their voice is directly represented through a specialist Armed Forces committee.

As an SOE member, we can help you become registered with the Engineering Council at EngTech (Engineering Technician), IEng (Incorporated Engineer) or CEng (Chartered Engineer) levels. Engineering Council registration marks you out as a skilled professional in the world of engineering and technology, and the qualification is recognised internationally.

SOE represents Army/REME personnel from a number of disciplines including:

  • Initial and Class 2 REME tradesmen (Armourer, Metalsmith, Vehicle Mechanic and Technician trades)
  • Class 1 Vehicle Mechanic [1]
  • Class 1 Armourers and Metalsmiths [1]
  • Artificer Vehicles [2]
  • Artificer Weapons [2]
  • REME Artificer (all other disciplines) [2]
  • Engineering Officers (DE and LE)

[1] Eligible for registration as an EngTech
[2] Eligible for registration as an IEngTech on successful completion of REME Warrant Officers’ Course (RWOC)

The Memorandum of Understanding between REME and SOE provides pathways to registration for REME Engineers to all levels of registration.

For further information please contact the Professional Standards Co-ordinator via email on registration@soe.org.uk or on 020 7630 2162.
