SOE introduces new council members

The AGM took place at the SOE head office in London and featured a presentation from President Howard Seymour. Howard gave an address to mark one year of his time in office and gave an update on the progress of the 2025 Vision. The AGM also served to introduce the other eight elected council members.


Ian Jackson CEng FSOE FIPlantE

Working in the power industry for over 40 years, Ian has worked in electricity trading and energy regulation, amongst other plant-based disciplines.
Ian brings to the role experience of developing and implementing policy and strategy, managing successful projects and engaging with stakeholders, including government agencies.
In joining the Trustee Board, Ian aims to make widely known the value of membership to prospective.


Andy Kidd CEng FSOE FBES

Andy has worked in the engineering inspection industry for over 31 years and brings a wealth of experience to the BES PSC. His background is principally in the field of machinery and has extensive knowledge of commercial and technical disciplines. Andy lives in Wilmslow, Cheshire, and is employed by British Engineering Services.
In his current role, Andy works to improve the standing of engineer surveyors in industry through professional registration. Andy believes that activity in the regional centres and collaboration with other engineering institutions is integral to continuous professional development (CPD).

Dean Greer IEng MSOE MBES

An experienced engineering surveyor and manager for over 30 years, Dean aims to help BES and its members, specifically in the field of local exhaust ventilation.
Dean represents SOE on the LEV competency committee. He wants to explore ways of attracting younger engineer surveyors, build on the competencies of current members, and increase membership. He works for Allianz Engineering and lives in Brierley Hill in the West Midlands.

Alan Richards CEng FSOE FBES

Coming from a marine engineering background, Alan has more than 30 years’ industry experience, with broad knowledge of the technical side of the role. He has worked as an engineer surveyor, area managing engineer and now as a principal engineer.
Alan has other management experience from his role as a school governor and as a pension board trustee. He has participated in many SAFed committees and has been involved with BES since 2013. Joining the BES PSC, Alan wants to encourage engineer surveyors of the benefits of membership.


Tony Robinson CEng MSOE MIPlantE MIRTE

Over a varied career covering many engineering disciplines, Tony has been involved in the plant, power generation, military, agricultural, rail traction and automotive sectors.
Tony continues to promote the best practice he learnt from his international supplier and customer bases, and now wants to help with the development of engineers through the IPlantE PSC in terms of education, certification and leadership. He lives in Oundle in Peterborough.

Patrick Hughes CEng FSOE FIPlantE

Patrick, an IPlantE member for over 50 years, wants to use his position on the PSC to encourage more younger engineers to register with the Engineering Council. He has sponsored more than 38 university placements over 20 years and is fully committed to personal development.
Patrick is Managing Director of Harmill Systems Ltd, a manufacturer of lifting equipment and electric vehicles. He lives in Hemel Hempstead.

Matt Jenkinson CEng FSOE FIPlantE

Head of Engineering at Parcelforce Worldwide, Matt brings over 25 years’ experience in the field. He has a broad knowledge of maintenance practice, including the development of apprenticeship schemes and professional registration.
In his current role since 2003, Matt hopes to bring his experience of developing maintenance teams to the council, and wants to help build SOE’s standing in the industry.

John Eastman EngTech CEnv FSOE FIRTE

An experienced fleet engineer, John has gained extensive knowledge of powder and petroleum tankers, car transporters, brewery vehicles and material handling equipment, from more than 40 years in industry. Now, he is heavily involved in irtec and Workshop Accreditation – for which he conducts audits – and is a Trustee.
John is a committed advocate of apprenticeships in vehicle engineering and has played a big role in expanding the IRTE membership base.

Ian MacDonald IEng FSOE FIRTE FIPlantE

Based in Doncaster, North Lincolnshire, Ian is an experienced engineering manager and auditor who has worked in the bus and coach sector for over 45 years.
Ian has been a SOE volunteer for over ten years; he has project-managed the review of the membership policy and procedures manual, trained PRI interviewers, mentored members through the professional registration process and heads the MHE Workshop Accreditation initiative.
