Nick Jones appointed interim CEO of SOE

12th Dec 2017

SOE has appointed Nick Jones as its interim CEO with immediate effect, it was announced today.

Nick returns to SOE having previously worked in the role of CEO from 2007-2013, and succeeds Ian Chisholm who passed away in October. In agreeing to an initial six-month period, Nick returns to the organisation he joined as Head of Finance in 2001.

Head of Operations Daniel Moir said: “Nick will provide a huge amount of support to the team as well as a wealth of experience and guidance and we are delighted to have him back. He has a proven understanding of how SOE operates and will be focused on continuing the Society’s upward trajectory.”

Nick, a Chartered Accountant by trade, born in Zambia before moving to England in 1961, was integral to the formation of the IRTE Skills Challenge and Workshop Accreditation, and was heavily involved in establishing irtec as an industry standard. Nick was also instrumental in a significant rise in Engineering Council registrations at SOE.

Nick said: “This is an exciting time to be coming back to SOE. Since 2013, the organisation has taken great strides forward in each of our three professional sectors, and I am thrilled to be returning to the fold. I will do all I can to ensure our members get the support they need from our organisation.”

The announcement is welcome and timely news, according to SOE President Howard Seymour.

He said: “We are fortunate to be able to bring in an experienced, respected and influential individual who will keep SOE progressing. Both I and the trustee board were fully supportive of this decision and we now have a solid base from which we can now build on.”
