Michael O'Regan (Dave McCarthy Memorial Silver Medal for Excellence in Motor Apprenticeship Studies) receives his award from Anne McCarthy and members of the Munster Centre

In April the Ireland Munster Centre presented its annual apprentice awards.

The event was attended by over 100 people representing SOE, employers, motor transport engineering personnel, college heads and lecturers from the Munster Institutes of Technology, and family and friends.

The centre’s Motor Apprentice Awards Scheme have been in existence since 1982, and reward apprentice motor technicians for their study and achievements at Cork, Waterford and Limerick Institutes of Technology.

The Dave McCarthy Memorial Silver Medal Award for Excellence in Motor Apprentice Engineering Studies went to Michael O’Regan, who is employed by Ballinlough Motors. Michael was nominated for the award by the Cork Institute of Technology (CIT).

The Derry O’Flynn Memorial Motor Apprentice Award for Excellence in Automobile Diagnostics was awarded to Waterford Institute of Technology (WIT) nominee Michael Sweeney who works for Keary’s of Mallow.

The Frank McNamara Memorial Motor Apprentice Award for Excellence in Diesel/Auto Electrical Studies was presented to Robin Maughan of Dennehy Motors Limerick. Robin was nominated for the award by the Limerick Institute of Technology (LIT).

SOE chief exec Peter Walsh also attended the event, and made an official presentation to the Munster Centre, which was named International Region of the Year at last year’s annual SOE lunch.
