An icon of 1960s motoring

22nd Oct 2013

Peter Leake from Jaguar Heritage provided members and guests of the Suffolk Centre with a fascinating presentation on the iconic Jaguar E-Type. From its production timescale from 1961 to 1974 the model’s striking design transfixed the motoring world, making the “XKE” one of the most famous cars of all time.

Peter Leake addresses the group

Member Simon Bennett brought his own 1966 2+2 E-Type Jaguar to the Cameo Hotel for members and guests to admire first hand. Simon has always had an affection for classic cars, having had several over the years, and purchased the converted model as an unfinished restoration project.

Before and after: Simon and Neil gave the E-Type a complete overhaul

He and childhood friend Neil Stones restored the car, giving it a full mechanical overhaul, new trimmed interior and body restoration. For extra impact they added replica Le Mans racing stripes, smoothed-out body work, Dunlop race wheels and decals, before heading off on a road trip to France, and tweeting pics and videos along the way. This event was a very enjoyable evening out.
