Master technician wins irtec engineering award

8th Dec 2017

Mark Brown lifted the Scottish irtec Engineer of the Year award at the annual Transport News Scottish Rewards presentation ceremony held in Glasgow in November.

The popular breakfast celebration, now in its 23rd year, attracted 600 road haulage industry guests and filled the banqueting suite of the Crowne Plaza Hotel.

Mark Brown started his working career as an apprentice mechanic with MOTEC Truck & Bus in Partick, Glasgow.

Subsequent work spells at Wyllie’s of Glasgow and TLS Vehicle rental as a mechanic preceded his move to Dumfries in 1998.

He has worked at Scania (Great Britain) Ltd’s Heathhall dealership since and his career has progressed from technician to chargehand and now to workshop controller.

Mark’s introduction to the irtec engineer qualification came as part of Scania’s Master Technician programme, which is now being rolled out across its entire network.
