Halfords Trade lifts IRTE Skills Challenge with prizes

Winners: The Translink team won two awards at the 2011 event, taking home some of the top prizes provided by Halfords Trade

The IRTE Skills Challenge 2012 has been boosted following news that key sponsor Halfords Trade are providing some fantastic prizes for winners of the upcoming competition.

Due to success of last year’s inaugural event, Halfords Trade are once again proud to be sponsoring the IRTE Skills Challenge.

A long-term supporter of both the IRT, the technician licensing scheme irtec, as well as the wider development of engineering professionals, Halfords Trade is a recognised and established retail name.

In 2005, Halfords launched its Trade Card as a way of supporting mechanics and engineers in the automotive sector. Halfords Trade worked with directors of engineering companies to distribute cards within the work place. Now hundreds of engineers benefit from discounts on numerous Halfords products.

Halfords Trade manager Paul Hewitson comments on the announcement that the company are again supporting the IRTE Skills Challenge 2012: “It was a pleasure to be involved last year in an event that recognised the commitment and capability of engineers within this industry. We are really excited about the opportunity to play our part this year too.

“Following the previous awards, we took time to hand deliver a majority of the prizes to winners at their place of work. This allowed us to raise awareness of both the competition and the skills of competing operators. This year, we are expecting even greater competition when the practical elements of the event take place at S&B Automotive Academy, Bristol, in June 2012”.

Full details of the prizes will be revealed shortly, but based upon the calibre of last year’s awards, competitors now have an even greater incentive to become the best bus or coach engineer in the business!

The Halfords Trade Card is also available to:
- Licence holders of IRTE’s technician competency assessment scheme, irtec
- All EngTech registered members of the Society of Operations Engineers, as well as IRTE members with IEng.
