S&B proud to support IRTE Skills Challenge

8th Jun 2012

Following the success of the first IRTE Skills Challenge held last year, S&B Automotive Academy will be supporting and hosting the competition again in 2012. S&B has been involved in the development of both the online and practical tests of the event, which aims to champion and reward the vital work and skills of talented bus and coach engineers.

Commenting on S&B Automotive Academy’s continuing involvement, Chief Executive Jon Winter said: “As an approved testing centre for the irtec licensing scheme, S&B Automotive Academy is delighted to further extend its long standing association with the SOE in hosting the 2012 IRTE Skills Challenge.

“A successful commercial vehicle sector relies on the competence and professionalism of its technicians. This innovative competition presents a dynamic opportunity to showcase their skills, particularly as technology gets more sophisticated.”

At the forefront of developing individuals in the motor vehicle and road transport sectors for over forty years, S&B Automotive Academy is a pioneering, not-for-profit training provider, based in Bristol.

Recognised across the commercial vehicle industry for its research and application of leading edge technologies in support of learning, S&B Automotive Academy has developed innovative and sustainable methods of improving individual and business performance within the national qualifications framework.

Training and supporting apprentices and adult learners for over 150 businesses across the UK, S&B Automotive Academy is one of the leading organisations in the field of Continuing Professional Development of vehicle technicians and holds the Government’s Training Quality Standard.

Statistics for apprenticeship completions at S&B in 2010 showed an overall success rate of 87%, compared with a national benchmark figure of 72%, positioning the Academy at the top of the UK rankings for the motor industry. In some areas, including Transport Engineering and Maintenance and Vehicle Parts Operations, the Academy achieved the maximum 100% of all students completing their qualifications successfully.
