The IRTE Skills Challenge 2012 has been boosted following news that key sponsor Halfords Trade will provide some fantastic prizes for winners of the upcoming competition.

Due to the success of last year’s inaugural event, Halfords Trade are once again proud to be sponsoring the IRTE Skills Challenge.

A long-term supporter of both the IRTE and the development of engineering professionals, Halfords Trade is a recognised and established retail name.

In 2005, it launched the Halfords Trade Card as a way of supporting mechanics and engineers in the automotive sector. Halfords Trade worked with directors of engineering companies to distribute the cards within work places, resulting in hundreds of engineers benefiting from discounts on numerous Halfords products.

Similarly, the Halfords Trade Card is available to licence holders of the IRTE’s technician competency assessment scheme, irtec, as well as to EngTech registered members of the Society of Operations Engineers, of which the IRTE is a Professional Sector.

Halfords Trade manager Paul Hewitson comments on the announcement that the company are again supporting the IRTE Skills Challenge 2012: “It was a pleasure to be involved last year in an event that recognised the commitment and capability of engineers within this industry. We are really excited about the opportunity to play our part this year too.

“Following the previous awards, we took time to hand deliver the majority of prizes to the winners’ workplaces, in order to raise awareness of both the competition and the skills of competing operators. This year, we are expecting an even greater competition when the practical elements of the event take place at S&B Automotive Academy, Bristol, in June 2012”.

Full details of the prizes will be revealed shortly, but based upon the calibre of last year’s awards, competitors now have an even greater incentive to become the best bus or coach engineer in the business!
