www.soe.org.uk goes live with new look, feel and functionality

SOE launched its revamped website at the end of September, with a fresh new look, easier navigation and new functionality.

On the new www.soe.org.uk site, SOE IPlantE members can now manage personal details and preferences online and get personalised web content, based on their professional sector and location.

Non members and SOE applicants can also personalise their web content, and SOE head office says it expects to see significant benefits, as well as administration savings.

Security is improved on the new website, with a move away from the old access controls of user name (email address) and password (membership number), in favour of SOE-issued preregistration, with secure logins.

As for the new functionality, it includes: ‘remember me’ options; an improved discussion forum, with private messaging; ‘leave a comment’ and ‘email a friend’ for news stories, magazine features and event reports; and RSS news feed subscription options.

Members who haven’t provided an email address will receive their login details by post, but SOE points out that, in order to use the new SOE online services, they will be required to provide an email address.

In November 2009, to coincide with IPlantE membership renewals, members who do not pay by direct debit will also be able to log in, see the amount outstanding on their account and pay securely online.
