Luncheon celebrates Engineer Surveyors

14th May 2010

BES Chair, and Engineer Surveyor, Nick Green.

The Bureau of Engineer Surveyors (BES) held a luncheon last month, to outline the support that the BES offers the vital profession of Engineer Surveyors and their industry.

Chief Executive Nick Jones, BES Chair Nick Green and Business Development Manager Will Reeves hosted the event, which championed the contribution of the highly skilled Engineer Surveyor, and invited attendees to offer employees full BES support.

BES is a Professional Sector of SOE (Society of Operations Engineers).

Senior representatives from Bureau Veritas, INITA, Allianz Engineering, Royal & Sun Alliance Engineering, the Lift and Escalator Industry Association, SGS UK Ltd, LECS (UK) Ltd and the Safety Assessment Federation, attended the luncheon, held in London’s Docklands during the Liftex exhibition at Excel.

Nick Jones explained that some of the strategic aims of the BES are to improve competence, recognize achievement and support members through the entirety of their career. He said: “Engineer Surveyors work in an industry where both professional and public expectation is extremely high, and the BES exists to help members meet and exceed professional goals.”

Nick Green, himself an Engineer Surveyor working for Bureau Veritas, spoke passionately about the importance of developing the careers of members, particularly with regard to professional registration with the Engineering Council.

Before the lunch, Nick Green explained the BES was perfectly placed to offer Engineer Surveyors Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status. Discussing the importance of recognising competence to an international standard, Nick Green said: “Through BES membership, Engineer Surveyors are afforded a level of professional support and recognition that is the best for them, best for industry, and best for the customer. Professional registration proves commitment and skill and we believe that Engineer Surveyors deserve this recognition from peers and employers alike.”

The lunch reinforced links with key organisations in an amiable setting, offering an open forum for any questions to be asked of the BES and the wider Society. Will Reeves said: “For both existing and potential members, the event was hugely important. The BES is approaching a milestone in its history, as nearly 1,000 Engineer Surveyors are in membership. Therefore, it is vital we engage with industry to evolve and continue offering leading support to Engineer Surveyors.”
