I first joined SOE IRTE in approximately 1995 when I was advised by a college lecturer from Coalville Technical College in Leicestershire. I remember him saying It will stand you in good stead, and it has.
I joined a Volvo Truck & Bus dealership in North Wales at the age of 19. I spent six years there which included my apprenticeship and, by reading Transport Engineer monthly, I was always one step ahead and aware of new technology in the industry.
I then took a job at a massive food retailer as an LGV driver and after two years I moved into a busy transport office as a transport scheduler. I was then offered a job with Mercedes Benz (Road Range) as a Heavy Goods Vehicle Technician, and I worked there for 18 months.
I have recently set up a small garage business, which continues to build to this day. SOE IRTE has helped me obtain my CPC (national and international) using the qualifications I have gained over the years. I am currently making enquiries to gain an Operators’ Licence, to hopefully put my own heavy goods vehicle into operation with a national contractor.
I now regard my SOE IRTE membership as an essential and important part of my professional credentials.
