Volvo safety systems and features

15th Nov 2011
North Wales & Cheshire

John Davies, driver development specialist for Thomas Hardie Commercials, a main franchise dealer for Volvo Trucks in the North West and North Wales, explained how Volvo truck production is based on three concepts – quality, environmental care and finally, safety, which was the main topic of his presentation.

To begin, Davies used a slideshow to illustrate forthcoming legislation that will affect truck operators, before outlining some of the safety features that Volvo had introduced to the commercial vehicle market. These include steel cabs, SRS (driver airbags) and more recently, lane change and lane keeping technology (LKS), which is offered as an option.

Davies used his experience to explain how adoptive cruise control, cornering lights, LKS, driver alert technology, lane changing support and tractor/trailer ESP worked, coupling his knowledge with a short video.

The well-attended event was enjoyed by all, with final thanks offered by centre chair Ernie Dixon.
