Firstly, the VOSA was view given by Border Centre member, Robert Carson, who told delegates how he, as a VOSA vehicle examiner based in South West Scotland, carries out checks on a companys vehicle maintenance provisions, normally after the issue of their first Operators Licence.
Robert begins his check with a visit to the users premises to see what arrangements are in place - and to see if the operator is abiding by the commitments given on their original application.
Robert accompanied his presentation with a series of pictures that he had recorded whilst carrying out his day job. These showed a variety of misdemeanours, including some very dangerous items on vehicles running on Britains roads today.
Members then took a second look at vehicle maintenance as IRTE Chairman Chris Grime went through the recently published IRTE Maintenance Supplier Assessment guide. The booklet, produced in conjunction with the North West Goods Vehicle Maintenance Liaison Committee, and approved by North West Traffic Commissioner Beverley Bell, is available from SOE Head Office. The proven guide assists operators in assessing and deciding which maintenance facilities will be appropriate for their fleets.
The lecture provided delegates with a wealth of information and the Border Centre thanks both presenters and audience for contributing to another successful event.
Report provided by Brian Collingwood. Secretary, IRTE Border Centre.
