FTA at the Border

25th Mar 2009

Malcolm touched on the Drivers’ CPC for coach drivers, which is now in place to improve road safety, fuel efficiency and the image of driving as a career. He also reminded the Centre that training for commercial vehicle drivers comes into effect in September 2009.

Malcolm covered the increases in recovery charges, detailing that a broken-down vehicle, or one damaged in an accident, can face recovery charges from £150 (under 3,500kgs) to £6,000 for an overturned, loaded heavy truck.

As with previous presentations from the FTA, the content was exhaustive and delegates learned about costs of storage; close proximity mirrors, which are to be retrofitted on all large vehicles by the 1st April 2009; fixed penalties; statutory holidays and Whole Vehicle Type Approval.

The lecture was so comprehensive that, when Malcolm asked if there were any queries, he was pleasantly surprised that all members had been satisfied with his information, which as ever was expertly conveyed and complemented by a copy of his notes.
