Coach trip delights North Western Centre

17th Nov 2009
North Western

The North Western Centre began its 2009/10 lecture programme with a visit to Holmeswood Coach Depot, in Leyland, to witness a coach tilt test and to tour the works.

As illustrated in the picture, a coach under test is placed at an angle of 33.4 degrees. When the tilt angle reaches 25 degrees, the on-board control panel lowers the suspension air pressure, thus reducing the possibility of the coach tipping over.

Following the demonstration, the visitors were then shown a brand new addition to the depot’s 150-strong fleet, the ultra-modern coach, Glory. With seventy-two luxurious seats and innovative disabled and wheelchair access, Glory, at a cost of some £300,000, will soon be commissioned for service.

The Centre wishes to thank Holmeswood’s Mr Aspinall, and colleagues, for their time and efforts during this extremely engaging tour.
