Carrier's South West eco-stand
1st Jan 2008
South Western
Justin Grace, UK Managing Director of Carrier Transicold, Scott Dargan, Operations Director and Rob Carter, Area Accounts Manager, came to Exeter with a presentation entitled Meeting the Environmental Challenge through Market Leading Technology. The introduction detailed the scope of the firm and its parent, United Technologies Corporation, whose impressive portfolio includes interests in the aviation industry, Chubb Fire & Security, Kidde & Otis Elevators and Hamilton Sundstrand, the manufacturer of NASAs space suits. Carrier is the largest division, with 2006 global revenues of $13.5 billion across the sectors of refrigeration, heating, ventilation and air conditioning.
Addressing many environmental challenges, both in terms of ecology and pollution from noise, Carrier created the Vector 1850 and Vector 1850 XLN (Extra Low Noise) refrigeration systems. With an innovative and efficient Kubota DI Diesel engine, the system produces the smallest refrigerant discharge of its class, decreasing harmful effects of CFCs.
When in use during deliveries, the unit is housed in a sound proof under slung locker, beating the tightest noise pollution requirements. This innovative variant of the Vector received the highly acclaimed John Connell award for technology from the Noise Abatement Society at Westminster last year.
The Centre, keen on environmental responsibilities, were left interested and impressed that such a giant corporation focused so heavily on efficiency.
