A recent symposium on safety engineering and management was jointly organised by The Society of Operations Engineers Hong Kong Region and The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers, Safety Specialist Committee. The Symposium provided a platform for guests and experts in various sectors to bring along a wide variety of interesting and state-of-the-art ideas and innovative measures in safety engineering and management.

The IRTE Northern Centre held the final lecture of the current programme in May at the Barton Grange Hotel as 26 members and guests were given an informative Continuing Professional Development (CPD) lecture by Ian Baron, the regional operations manager for the Highways Agency.

Top apprentices awarded

The Ireland Munster Centre recently held the region's annual Apprentice Awards, recognising the best apprentices in road transport. The awards are presented on a rotational basis and in conjunction with the Cork, Limerick and Waterford Institutes of Technology.
