Gents.

I was wondering if any of you have had cause for concern when operating any Omega MRL lifts of recent age (2010) from car top control.

On a recent one that I examined when moving in the downwards direction I released the common and down buttons and the lift stopped and then moved in the upwards direction for about 300- 400 mm. This happened in up and down directions.

Obviously if a surveyor was looking down the edge of the car and he/ she released the buttons and the car moved back up the shaft it could have serious consequences if any steel work was in the vicinity. On contacting Omega I was informed that this is because I was not releasing the buttons in the correct manner/ sequence.

Apparently you have to release one then wait a split second and then release the next. There was no sign indicating correct sequence to release buttons to stop uncontrolled upward direction at time of inspection ( but the lift maint company have now put one in place).

Have any of you encountered this before and if so what were your thoughts. Omega in Spain seem to be dragging their heels in responding.

Cheers

Christopher,
I have had an ongoing issue with a couple of these lifts and in my opinion they remain a serious hazard to the unwary and in an emergency situation will not stop immediately if stop control applied. On the subject lifts that I have examined any break in the circuit then the machine will travel a further 9 inches before coming to rest. The distance will vary depending on lift configuration and loading but suffice to say the anomaly is not correct or safe. It is my understanding that a number of other consultants are also raising similar concerns and hopefully a solution will be in the pipeline soon.
You are welcome to email me should you require further info.
Regards,
Bob.
