SOE’s charitable status and aims

SOE (Society of Operations Engineers) is a Registered Charity and firmly promotes safe, efficient and environmentally-sustainable operations engineering, benefiting its membership and the public.

A membership organisation, SOE represents individual members, company members (Industry Partners) and academic/training institution members (Academic Partners) in the engineering industry.

SOE champions engineering’s contribution to society, supports and encourages best practice and health and safety initiatives internationally, and is committed to the ongoing growth and personal development of its members, through specialist knowledge-sharing and professional learning.

SOE’s charitable status is a sign of its contribution to its members and the public. A recognised Investor in People, the SOE’s charitable purpose is;

"To promote safe, efficient and environmentally sustainable operations engineering to the benefit of society."

SOE achieves this by:

  • Encouraging people into the profession and SOE membership
  • If suitably qualified, helping members to register with the Engineering Council
  • Offering a wide range of technical information and advice via its website, magazines and technical events
  • Pioneering and operating irtec, a licensing scheme for commercial vehicle mechanics and technicians.
